  I. An Overview of NCIST
      North China Institute of Science and Technology (NCIST) is accountable to the State Administration of Work Safety, located in the National Economic and Technological Development Zone, Yanjiao, Hebei Province. NCIST is only 30 km away from Tian’anmen Square, and 24 km from Beijing Capital Airport. Bus 811 and 812 run between NCIST and Beijing’s CBD (Center of Business District) for residents convenience.

  NCIST covers a total area of 800 mu, and has a further building area of 430,000. It offers 43 undergraduate programs, covering eight disciplinary fields: engineering, science, liberal arts, law, economics, managementeducation and arts, etc. Currently, NCIST has an excellent faculty team comprised of 1090 members in total, including 883 full-time teachers. Of all the professional teachers, about 81% hold master or doctoral degrees and nearly 49.6% are professors or associate professors. Furthermore, NCIST also has 2 academician (external) of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and 16 state-level senior experts specialized in various fields. Over 16,000 full-time students are currently attending various academic or vocational courses at the institute.

  NCIST has 11 research centers distributed in the following fields, including gas prevention and control and water damage prevention and control; as well as 11 key laboratories of the provincial and ministerial level, including 8 science and technology platforms of National Security Supervision Bureau and 3 science and technology platforms of Hebei Province. The facilities and equipment for teaching and research are currently valued at 190,000,000 RMB. Modern teaching technology is so widely applied in NCIST that it serves as a network base for the China Education and Research Network (CERNET).The NCIST library has a large collection of 1,149,700 books and 1338 newspapers and periodicals (in both Chinese and other languages). Additionally, it has several millions of digital books, together with 23 databases. Comprehensive physical equipments and facilities like athletic field, basketball court, indoor stadium and swimming pool are well equipped on the campus, providing a favorable teaching and living system.

  NCIST maintains a long-term and stable cooperative relationship with the International Labor Organization and European Commission; meanwhile, joint education programs have been started with higher learning institutions and research institutes from America, UK, Italy and Latvia to cultivate professionals. One Belt One Road Initiative China-Latvia Center for Academic Exchange is set up at NCIST. Presently, more than 20 long-term foreign experts and teachers are employed by the institute. Moreover, the current enrollment of international students is about 50.

  The Office of International Cooperative specializes in international students’ admission and daily service, offering a large range of language training programs to international students to be in accordance with different interests and needs. NCIST encourages students to participate in extracurricular activities related to Chinese folklore to experience Chinese culture further. NCIST welcomes you.  

  II. General Language Course

  Short-term Language Courses can be undertaken over 15 students.

  V. Application

  Notes: 1. Students must register with the local public security departments for temporary stay within 24 hours of his/her entry. Otherwise, he/she will be unable to go through the visa formalities and will be fined according to relevant Chinese law.

              2. Transfer students need to provide transfer certificate.

              3. Certificate for Chinese language proficiency are required for students who want to attend Bachelor’s or Master’s Program.

              4. All the fees need to be paid in RMB. Transportation expenses during visa and physical examination are at students own cost.

  Applicants can contact the International Students Office to get an application form or find the attachment.

  Please send the completed application form to the office together with a copy of your passport (photo page), certificate(s) , physical examination records and resume. Alternatively, you may visit our office in person with all required documents.

  VI. Frequent Asked Questions

  Q 1: How do I get to the university?

  A: We provide students pick-up service upon your arrival; or you can take the subway line 1 and get off at Da Wang Road Station, please take bus 812 or 811 to Hua Bei Ke Ji Xue Yuan station.

  Q 2: How to pay?

  A: It is only payable in RMB. Students pay in cash to the Accounting Department upon arrival.

  Q 3: How can I open my personal bank account?

  A: You may have it done with your passport in any bank near campus. There are many banks around campus, such as Construction Bank of China, Bank of China, etc.

  Q 4: Whom should I turn for help if I am in trouble off campus?

  A: Please dial the emergency number 110 while call International Students Office.

  Q 5: How much money should I take?

  A: Students need to take sufficient money for your tuition and accommodation fees. Food and living necessaries costs RMB 1,200 -- 2,500, which depends on individual lifestyle. It is pretty convenient to exchange it in Bank of China before you enter China or exchange it after arrival. If you take travelers checks, you need to exchange it in Bank of China.

  Q 6: What kind of clothing should I take?

  A: It is typical humid continental climate, presenting distinctive four seasons--a hot and rainy summer, a cold and dry winter, but very pleasant spring and autumn. Min -5 in winter and max 30 in summer.

  Q 7: What language do they use in the class of Chinese Language?

  A: Chinese language is used even in the class.

  Q 8: Are there any places for meals around campus?

  A: Students can either go to have meal in the student dining halls or out of campus. Deliver meal service is also provided at restaurants nearby.
